I was looking for a little motivation and inspiration last week. I've been shooting for myself this month. Looking for some possible stories I can pitch to some magazines. Tent revivals always fascinated me when I was working at the paper.. there have been some pretty strange things I've experienced under those tents. So, when a "tent revival April 22-27" sign caught my eye off hwy 67 in East Bend, I swung in. They were just pitching the tent when I stopped by to ask if it would be OK to come one night to photograph. One of the ministers owned the tent and has taken in all over the US.. with some pretty interesting stories himself.. but I won't spoil the ending here, you'll have to wait until I find a publication to tell the story in. I guess I've always been drawn to tent revivals because they tell a story of community, of loss, and of faith. Every one is different.
The same weekend I caught a ride with some friends to Merlefest to listen to one of my favorite bands, The Devil Makes Three.. ironic huh? Again, I was drawn to the dance tent. Same vibe of community... but pretty contrasting. So interesting that both things kinda stumbled in front of my lens without much thought on my part.
While editing the images from this weekend, I found a pretty interesting interplay of photos.
